Can ChatGPT Be Used for Creating Text and Other Content for a Company's Official Website?

This article explains why ChatGPT and other generative AI tools should not be directly used for creating textual content for digital promotion of your company on the internet.

Many business owners and digital marketing professionals are asking a valid question: Can ChatGPT and other generative AI tools be used for creating text and other content for SEO and other online promotion methods? In short, they should not be used directly.

We use ChatGPT to check for grammatical and stylistic errors in our materials for various website pages. Sometimes it aids in brainstorming, acting as an additional team member. Plus, for many of our latest blog articles, the cover images are created by generative AI.

However, generating texts using it for SEO and other critical tasks is not advisable. At first glance, ChatGPT and other generative AI tools seem to magically create content independently. But in reality, they are based on far from perfect algorithms.

Generative AI does not guarantee text uniqueness. For blog articles and other website pages to appear in Google and other search engines, they ideally need to be 95–100% unique. Slightly lower uniqueness levels are permissible, but the content becomes less effective.

ChatGPT often only achieves a uniqueness level of 10–15%. While the text may seem different to a human, the arrangement of words and phrases is too standard, which Google immediately recognizes. It won't completely block a website with generated content from appearing in search results, but don't expect high rankings.

Generative AI is not a reliable data source. At first glance, it seems like ChatGPT knows answers to almost everything. This became especially noticeable when, with Microsoft's sponsorship, it gained access to Bing's search mechanism.

But due to imperfect algorithms, ChatGPT often fabricates false data, presenting it as factual. That's why there's a warning at the bottom of the system interface stating ‘ChatGPT can make mistakes. Consider checking important information.’

Generative AI lives in an absolutely abstract world. No matter how complex a request is made to ChatGPT for generating any text, it cannot produce results that utilize the specific knowledge and experience of a particular company. It’s simply an impossible task.

Today, potential clients want a piece of a business's experience. The internet is already overflowing with information on various topics, so you can only interest someone with your website or other marketing materials if they offer something unique.

In summary, ChatGPT can indeed assist in content creation for a company's official website and in creating other marketing materials. We at Focus21 use it ourselves to speed up certain processes and improve our texts and other materials.

But using generative AI for SEO promotion or anything else directly is not advisable at all. ChatGPT and similar tools built on neural networks only show their strengths in the hands of true professionals, who are part of our team.
